Description
This machine is a Howe made in Circa 1870 (very rough estimate). It was made by the Howe Machine company which was founded in 1865 by Elias Howe, the man who patented the lockstitch. The company was run by Elias’s sons-in-law the Stockwell Brothers until 1886. After Elias’s death in 1867 they began putting brass memorial medalions on the bed of every machine. This particular cabinet has a “Till Top”. It is a specialized machine cover which has brackets to hang it at the left end of the sewing table, thereby creating a larger sewing surface. The top of the cover opens up to give access to the accessories and such stored inside. Another unusual feature of this machine is the bobbin winder is mounted on the iron legs.
A bit more formal than a standard-issue t-shirt, the ultra cotton long sleeve tee is a clear comfort winner. The sleeves also act as a nice frame. There are no side seams. The shoulders are taped for improved durability. This makes for a good fitting around the shoulders and neck. The cotton used for these shirts is environmentally friendly.
